BOLAM Weekly Update: Children had a good week
* Children: The children had a good week. Shalom is really opening up to us—she now comes up to me and calls me “daddy.” Friday has also opened up and will come up to me. Our older girls Blessing and Nunu are struggling with listening to and obeying the house moms and others in authority over them. Primrose and I plan to meet with them to lay out our expectations for obedience and spend time with them in the Bible reading verses about how children are to obey. Please pray for them and thank you for praying for all of our children: Joseph, Alex, Amanya, Kato, Kakuru, Gift, Night, Determine, Murungi, Antony, Deo, Opio, Odongo, Blessing, Shalom, Nunu, Evelyn, and Friday.
* Chapel: I enjoyed preaching on Jer. 29:10-14 about how God desires our best (not that we would be in captivity, but that we would follow and obey Him) and how we are to seek Him.
Cox Family/Ugandan Life Update:
* Travel: We will travel to Kampala Wednesday to pick up Samuel for his break (he will be with us for a month—yea!). We plan to spend several days in Kampala and likely come back the following Monday.
* Personal Retreat (appearing before God): Several years ago I believe God placed an idea on my heart—to “appear” before Him three times a year. I got this from Ex. 23:17 – “Three times in the year all your males shall appear before the LORD God.” I even talked with Primrose about us having personal retreats three times in a year. For whatever lame reasons or excuses, as was true with the Israelites and all of us at one time or another, I never implemented this idea. During an early morning devotional time, I believe God reminded me of this idea. I also found myself in Exodus 12 and read about how the Israelites were to commemorate the Passover and celebrate God bringing them out of Egypt. I thought about how God delivered me from the penalty of sin with Jesus’ sacrifice and my faith in Him and how He has delivered me from certain bondages. I then came up with the idea to commemorate the day I was saved and developed a plan to “appear” before God on or around November 10 (my salvation day), March 10, and July 10. Since March 10 had passed, I had my personal retreat or “appearing” before God on Saturday. I went to Lake Bunyonyi (about 20 minutes from where we live) and hung out all day and sought God. I had a wonderful time communing with God in His Word as I did a word study on “search” (e.g., God searches our hearts), “seek” (we are to seek God), and "pray" (Jesus would withdraw and pray to His Heavenly Father). I also reviewed the last year or so contemplating events and how God had worked in my life. Additionally, I prayed for direction and to lead my family and ministry well. I am encouraged! God desires us to meet with Him and He is faithful to “speak” to us. I can’t wait for July 10. Don’t worry. I don’t just seek God three times a year. I have daily communion with Him in the mornings. Three times a year is when I will set aside at least a whole day to review the previous few months and preview the upcoming few months seeking God regarding changes I need to make and direction I need to take. “A man’s heart plans his way, but the LORD directs his steps” (Prov. 16:9). Primrose will have her first personal retreat or appearing before God May 20.
